Insights from TP Fire & Security's Fleet Manager, Tasha Earl
At TP Fire & Security, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Behind every engineer on the road is a dedicated team working tirelessly to ensure operations run smoothly, safely and efficiently. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Tasha Earl, our Fleet Manager. Tasha’s role is vital in keeping our nationwide fleet moving and supporting the delivery of essential fire and security services to our customers.
We sat down to discuss her career journey, the importance of fleet management, and her experiences as a woman working in a traditionally male-dominated field.
As Fleet Manager, you play a crucial role at TP Fire & Security. Can you tell us what your role involves and why it’s so important to the business?
As Fleet Manager, I’m responsible for ensuring our entire vehicle fleet operates safely, efficiently, and compliantly. That includes vehicle procurement, maintenance schedules, compliance checks, fuel management, supplier relationships and supporting our engineers on the road.
Our fleet is the backbone of the business, without reliable, compliant vehicles, our engineers can’t deliver the essential fire and security services our clients depend on. My role helps keep operations running smoothly, minimises downtime and ensures we meet all legal and safety obligations.
What first attracted you to a career in fleet management, and the fire and security industry?
I’ve always enjoyed roles that require organisation, problem-solving and coordination. Fleet management combines all of those elements; no two days are the same.
The fire and security industry appealed to me because it’s purpose-driven. The work we do genuinely protects people, property and businesses. Being part of an industry that has such a direct impact on safety and security makes the role even more meaningful.
Fleet management is often seen as a male-dominated area. What has your experience been as a woman in this field?
It is traditionally male-dominated, but my experience has been positive overall. I’ve learned to be confident in my knowledge and decisions, and to let my work speak for itself.
Being a woman in this field has actually strengthened my resilience and adaptability. I believe diverse perspectives improve any department, and I’m proud to contribute to that within the business.
What skills do you think are essential to successfully managing a fleet and keeping everything running smoothly?
Organisation is absolutely key, there are so many moving parts to manage. Strong communication skills are also vital, as I liaise with engineers and senior management daily.
Attention to detail is critical for compliance and safety, and problem-solving skills help when unexpected issues arise, whether that’s vehicle breakdowns or arranging vans for new starters. Being proactive rather than reactive makes a huge difference.
What’s been your proudest achievement in your role so far?
One of my proudest achievements has been strengthening supplier relationships & introducing the first electric vehicle to the fleet to do our bit to protect the environment and lower emissions & reduce our carbon footprint.
How do you stay organised when you’re balancing vehicle compliance, logistics, suppliers and team needs?
I rely on structured planning and forward scheduling where possible. I prioritise tasks based on urgency and compliance deadlines, and I maintain strong communication with everyone involved.
Staying organised in fleet management isn’t just about reacting to issues, it’s about anticipating them before they happen. Excel sheets are my best friend!
What does leadership mean to you in your position?
Leadership, to me, is about accountability and support. Even if I’m not directly managing a large team, I take responsibility for the fleet’s performance and the impact it has on others.
It also means being approachable, solution-focused and willing to step up when challenges arise. Good leadership is about consistency and trust.
Have you faced any challenges in your career, and how did you overcome them?
Like many women in operational roles, I’ve occasionally had to work harder to prove my expertise. I overcame that by building strong knowledge, staying confident in my decisions and focusing on results.
Challenges have ultimately strengthened my problem-solving abilities and resilience.
What advice would you give to other women considering a career in operations or fleet management?
Don’t be put off by outdated perceptions of the industry. If you’re organised, decisive and enjoy problem-solving, fleet management can be an incredibly rewarding career.
Have confidence in your abilities, keep learning, and don’t hesitate to take up space in the room. Your perspective adds value.
If you could describe your role in three words, what would they be and why?
Strategic – because fleet decisions directly impact operational success.
Proactive – because anticipating issues prevents disruption.
Reliable – because the business depends on the fleet running safely and smoothly every day.
